Ali Omar El-Farouk is an Egyptian/Canadian guitarist and oud player with over 25 years of professional experience as a performer, composer, and teacher.
His career spans performances across Egypt, Canada, the United States, Turkey, Spain, Italy, and Thailand. Deeply influenced by both Eastern and Western musical traditions, he has studied jazz, traditional Arabic and Middle Eastern music, flamenco, and Western classical music, shaping a versatile and distinctive musical voice.
He has performed with a wide range of ensembles, from jazz groups and rock/blues/pop bands to Middle Eastern and flamenco ensembles, and has appeared at numerous festivals in Canada, Egypt, and Spain. Recent performances in Thailand include venues such as the Siam Society and Sala Sudhasiri Sobha in Bangkok, as well as the Melia Hotel in Koh Samui.
His debut album, Ela Mataa?, was recorded in Montreal and released in 2019. He holds a Licentiate in Jazz Performance from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music and a Bachelor’s degree with Distinction in Jazz Studies from Concordia University. Equally committed to teaching, he offers instruction at his studio and online. In 2022, he received the Friends of Manial Palace Museum Association Award in Egypt.
