Profile

Guy Slabbinck
Artist

Guy Slabbinck, a Bruges-born artist, creates vibrant paintings, drawings, and etchings. His work explores the relevance of figurative painting today, often drawing on classical themes like paradise lost, colonial history, and mythology. Inspired by masters such as Titian, Rubens, and Gauguin, Slabbinck reinterprets iconic artworks to create a new visual language. He believes art should show emotion and fulfill a social, rather than economic, role, continuing the tradition of reinvention and exploration in painting.

Born in 1979, Slabbinck lives and works in Ghent and studied at Sint-Lucas.
