Profile

Jeanne Pham Tran
Writer & Independant Publisher

Born in 1986 in France, Jeanne Pham Tran now resides in Thailand.

After studying literature and Chinese, she worked for an international art fair in Shanghai and later in publishing in Paris. For the past decade, she has been a book editor and has also co-authored several essays. In 2023, she published her first novel, De rage et de lumière (Of Rage and Light), by Mercure de France. Her first essay, Révolution Bambou (Bamboo Revolution), was released in May 2024 by Éditions des Équateurs.

While her novel explores the complexity of the human soul, the figure of the contemporary hero, and the themes of death, the sacred, and beauty, her essay on bamboo explores the connections this rhizomatic plant can forge between humans and the rest of the living world. She examines its philosophical, spiritual, and even political significance as both a plant and a material.
