Kittisak Thapkoa
Contemporary Painter

Kittisak Thapkoa is a Thai contemporary painter whose work explores morality, suffering, and spiritual consequence through meticulously rendered figurative compositions.

Raised in northeastern Thailand, he was deeply influenced by the intricate temple murals depicting the heavens and hells of Buddhist cosmology imagery that continues to shape his artistic vision.

He earned his Bachelor of Fine Art from Silpakorn University, where he developed exceptional technical precision in drawing and painting.

Kittisak draws from two major iconographic traditions: Thai Buddhist mural painting and Christian depictions of damnation. From these sources, he constructs chimerical scenes populated by hybrid human, animal, and divine figures, staged within dense and often unsettling narratives of moral reckoning.

His works portray visions of suffering not for spectacle, but as ethical reflection. By visualizing the consequences of destructive human behavior, he suggests that hell is not a distant metaphysical realm but a condition shaped by human action.

His practice uses technical mastery as a vehicle for moral inquiry, inviting viewers to confront the implications of their choices.

Kittisak has received numerous accolades, including the Young Thai Artists Award (2012, 2014), the Amata Art Award (2013), and the UOB Painting of the Year Gold Award (2013) for Hell of the Thirsty Demons.

His debut solo exhibition, Truth, was held at Number 1 Gallery, Bangkok, in 2015. He has also exhibited internationally at Art Stage Singapore (2016) and Art Stage Jakarta (2017).

His master’s thesis project, Narok Bhumi (Hell), further expanded his exploration of Buddhist moral philosophy through contemporary painting.

Through refined draftsmanship and symbolic intensity, Kittisak Thapkoa’s work transforms traditional cosmological imagery into urgent contemporary reflection.
