Lore Stessel

In her photographic work, Lore Stessel explores the interface between photography and painting. In this physical process of cration, she consciously makes room for “the accidental” and “the unforeseen”.

As a subject, the corporeal also occupies an important position. She is fascinated by the beauty of daily routines, small gestures and the power of movement. Much of her oeuvre stems from encounter between photographer and dancer(s), trust is essential. The creative process takes place within a limited time frame, with an awareness of its ephemerality and value.

Lore Stessel obtained a Master in Painting from the Luca School of Arts, Brussels in 2009 and a Master from l’ecole Nationale Supérieure de la Photographie Arles in 2012. She received the Louis rouder Prize in 2012 and a grant from the Flemish government in 2020 to publish her first monograph “The Body Will Thrive.

Lore Stessel is represented by rossicontemporary, Brussels, and by Filles du calvaire, Paris. Lore Stessel is associated Artist at Azkuna Zentroa Alhóndiga – Bilbao , She lives in Brussels and works in Leuven.
