Nawajul Boonpucknavig
Block Light Shoot Cinematography School
Co-Founder / School Director
Award-winning short film director, TV commercial and music video director, and recently co-founder and school director at Block Light Shoot Cinematography School, Thailand’s first cinematography school.
Nawajul grew up in a doctor’s family in Bangkok, Thailand. However, his passion for photography and movies led him down a different path from the rest of his family. He pursued studies in photography and cinematography in the United States. In 1995, he wrote and directed a short film, The Bug, funded by Siam Studio, one of Thailand’s leading production companies at the time. After The Bug won the Best Short Film Award (Ratana Pestonji Award) at the first Thailand Short Film Competition, organized by the Thai Film Foundation and the Thai National Film Archive, his career as a TV commercial director took off.
With nearly 30 years in the film industry, Nawajul continues to enjoy directing and producing. He has been invited as a guest lecturer in the film departments of several universities. Recently, he collaborated with three of Thailand’s top cinematographers to co-found Block Light Shoot Cinematography School, the country’s first dedicated cinematography school.
