Phadungsak Kheawpong
Contemporary Figurative Painter
Phadungsak Kheawpong is a Thai contemporary painter whose work explores the tensions between tradition and modernity, sacred symbolism and everyday absurdity.
Raised in Chanthaburi a province known for its lush orchards and gemstone mines he grew up immersed in nature’s rhythms, an influence that continues to inform his reflections on humanity’s evolving relationship with civilization.
He received his BFA in Painting from Poh-Chang Academy of Arts, Rajamangala University of Technology Rattanakosin, where he developed strong technical command rooted in Baroque and Renaissance traditions.
Dramatic chiaroscuro, theatrical compositions, and meticulous attention to fabric and gesture characterize his painterly language.
Phadungsak’s works stage surreal encounters in which priests, statues, animals, and contemporary figures inhabit symbolic tableaux.
Drawing on Old Master techniques, he constructs scenes that are at once humorous and critical juxtaposing sacred iconography with playful absurdity to question political, cultural, and social constructs.
His compositions function as layered allegories, bridging East and West, past and present, reverence and irony.
He has received recognition in Thailand’s 19th Panasonic Contemporary Painting Competition and was featured in the 30th Exhibition of Contemporary Art by Young Artists.
His solo exhibitions include Assumed (2017), Imaginary Land (2020), and Scenario (2025) at Number 1 Gallery, Bangkok.
Through technical precision and satirical nuance, Phadungsak Kheawpong invites viewers to reconsider the narratives and realities they accept as truth.
