Sanjeev Chowdhury is from Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is a graduate of Saint Mary’s University in Nova Scotia (B. Comm, Magna Cum Laude) and the American Graduate School of International Management in Arizona (MBA, With Distinction). He joined Canada’s foreign service in 1995 and has served in Mumbai, Ho Chi Minh City, Rio de Janeiro, and, currently, Bangkok, arriving in July 2019, where he is the Senior Trade Commissioner at the Canadian Embassy, normally a three-year posting.

However, Mr. Chowdhury has been extended to August, 2025 which will give him six years in the “Land of Smiles”. In the span of a 30-year career in the Canadian government, Mr. Chowdhury has been Consul General in two of his four postings (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and was Dean of the Consular Corps during the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

He is the recipient of the UNESCO Vietnam medal, the Ho Chi Minh City Insignia medal, the Vietnam Peace and Friendship medal, holds an honorary doctorate from Augusto Motta University in Rio de Janeiro, and was the first Canadian to be made an honorary citizen of Rio de Janeiro.

In Thailand, he has served three consecutive years as a board member of the Rotary Club of Bangkok South, most recently as Vice-President.
