Profile
Tawmayui
Khaen Instrument
“TAWMAYUI” is a name drawn from an ancient Isan folktale. He describes himself as a “borderland musician.” From a very young age, he was immersed in music through local traditions and ritual ceremonies. His encounter with the khaen—a traditional bamboo mouth organ—marked a turning point. Captivated by its mysterious charm, he began to practice and soon formed a deep bond with its sound.
The voice of the khaen has led him on a long artistic journey, inspiring him to explore performance beyond traditional conventions. Yet he continually returns to his roots, performing the khaen in rituals and local folk traditions in Sisaket Province.
As a borderland musician, he is deeply engaged in sonic experimentation. Using traditional instruments as a foundation, he explores new possibilities—experimenting with sound, context, and self. He believes in the boundless possibilities of music across cultures and borders.
