Tom Waller is a Thai-Irish film director, screenwriter, and producer, born in Bangkok in 1974 to a Thai Buddhist mother and Irish Catholic father. Educated in the UK, he earned a postgraduate diploma in Film Production from the Northern Film School in Leeds, England in 1995. Waller founded De Warrenne Pictures in 1996 and began his directing career with Monk Dawson (1998), before moving into producing and directing a diverse slate of films across genres and countries.
He is best known for his Thai-language features, including the acclaimed murder mystery Mindfulness and Murder (2011), and the biopic The Last Executioner (2014), which won Thailand’s prestigious “Tukkata Tong” award for Best Picture. Waller gained international recognition with The Cave (2019), the first narrative film about the Tham Luang cave rescue, which was released globally and won several humanitarian and festival awards.
Beyond feature films, Waller has produced for major US studios, worked on numerous reality TV shows such as “Survivor”, and directed music videos. He currently serves as Vice President of FILM BANGKOK, the feature film and OTT division of Tero Entertainment. His latest film, Kiss of the Con Queen (2024), continues his focus on true stories and cross-cultural narratives. Waller’s multicultural background and international experience have shaped his reputation as a leading figure in Thai and global cinema.
